Reframing Your Story as a Neurodivergent Woman

So many neurodivergent women grow up absorbing stories that were never theirs to begin with — stories about being

“too much,”

“too sensitive,”

“too scattered,”

“too emotional,”

or “not living up to potential.”

Over time, those messages settle into the body as shame, self‑doubt, and a quiet belief that something is fundamentally wrong.

Therapy is where we rewrite that narrative.

Together, we explore how ADHD has shaped your life — not as a flaw, but as a pattern of strengths, sensitivities, creativity, and resilience that were never recognized or supported. We look at the internalized messages you have carried for years and begin reframing them into a story that actually reflects who you are: a smart, intuitive, deeply creative woman who has always marched to the beat of her own drum, even when the world tried to hand her a different rhythm.

This work is not about "fixing" you.
It is about understanding you, honoring you, and lifting up the parts of you that were never the problem.

Common Goals in ADHD‑Focused Therapy
Understanding your ADHD or a partner's ADHD
Making sense of symptoms, patterns, and communication differences.

Learning about executive function (EF)

Understanding how EF challenges — which are standard in ADHD — can impact daily life, increase vulnerability to trauma, and contribute to internalized shame and negative self‑talk.

Exploring how ADHD uniquely impacts women
Including masking, emotional regulation, rejection sensitivity, and the pressure to perform perfection.

Adjusting to a late‑life ADHD diagnosis
Integrating the relief, grief, clarity, and identity shifts that come with finally having answers.

Building self‑acceptance and identity clarity

Reclaiming strengths, developing skills, and creating a life that fits your brain rather than forcing your brain to fit your life.
Navigating accommodations, burnout, transitions, and environments that allow you to thrive.

Welcome — My name is Sarah.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington. I earned my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oregon State University, where I focused on Social Justice, Systems Theory, and the cultural forces that shape our identities.

My work is grounded in both lived experience and ongoing professional training. I am especially passionate about understanding ADHD and how it uniquely impacts women and LGBTQ+ individuals — including the ways symptoms are often masked, misunderstood, or overlooked. I also stay current on evidence‑based practices and the evolving research around ADHD treatment and psychopharmacology.

I started this practice over five years ago because I kept meeting women who were trying to reclaim their values, identity, and voice from the expectations placed on them. Watching clients heal, grow, and step into their authentic selves has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

My focus deepened when I recognized ADHD traits in myself and received my own diagnosis of ADHD‑Inattentive Type at age 44. That experience reshaped my understanding of neurodivergence and inspired me to specialize further. Since then, I’ve completed extensive training in executive functioning, disability support, psychopharmacology, trauma, and advocacy, and earned certification as an ADHD Certified Clinical Specialist (ADHD‑CCSP).

Today, my work blends two core passions:

  • Supporting women in healing from trauma and internalized shame

  • Providing affirming, comprehensive care for ADHD — especially for those diagnosed later in life

I know how powerful it is to finally understand your brain, your story, and your strengths. It’s a privilege to walk alongside women who are doing the brave work of reclaiming their lives.

I’d love to support you on your journey.

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” – Maya Angelou

“One isn’t born courageous, one becomes it.” – Marjane Satrapi

“We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.”—Max de Pree

Common Goals in ADHD‑Focused Therapy

  • Understanding your ADHD or a partner’s ADHD
Making sense of symptoms, patterns, and communication differences.

  • Learning about executive function (EF)
Understanding how EF challenges — which are standard in ADHD — can impact daily life, increase vulnerability to trauma, and contribute to internalized shame and negative self‑talk.

  • Exploring how ADHD uniquely impacts women
Including masking, emotional regulation, rejection sensitivity, and the pressure to perform perfection.

  • College, career, and life support
Navigating accommodations, burnout, transitions, and environments that allow you to thrive.

If you want, I can also help you:

  • Integrate this into your About Me page

  • Turn it into a section header or tagline

  • Create a visual, ND‑friendly version

  • Write a “What ADHD feels like for women” section that pairs with this beautifully

Just tell me where you want it to live on the site and I’ll shape it to fit.

Trauma Treatment: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is often used in trauma treatment, including PTSD, Internalized ADHD trauma, abuse, anxiety, OCD, and more

EMDR can also be very effective for phobias.

Some other examples of what we may use as therapeutic aids and tools:

  • Decision-Making Skills

  • Emotional Fluency

  • Creative Outlets for Self-Expression

  • Identity Exploration

  • Assertiveness Training

  • Reframing Negative Thoughts (CBT)

  • Quieting Your Inner Critic

  • Shame Reduction

  • Confidence Building

  • Creating a Healthy Attachment Style

  • Learning To Sit With Discomfort

  • Identifying Your Unique Motivation

  • Self-acceptance

  • Mindfulness Training

  • Music sharing and exploration to express emotions

  • Somatic techniques: connecting with your body

  • Identifying Multicultural Influences

  • Creating Structure From Chaos (routine and time management)

  • Allowing Chaos To Flow Through Structure (relaxing rigidity)

The basis of confidence is trust. Self-confidence is technically just "self-trust." When one trusts themselves, the rest begins to fall into place. Through exploration and tool acquisition in a therapeutic environment, the individual can build confidence in themselves and their external relationships. They will learn to create goals and meet them. Discover what it is that is causing symptoms such as depression or anxiety, and get to the root of things so they can be free of their suffering rather than just masking the symptoms (Effective tools can be taught for coping, too!).

SARAH JURRENS HAS COMPLETED EMDRIA APPROVED PHASE I AND PHASE II TRAINING AND CONSULTATION FOR EMDR.

WHAT IS EMDR?

For trauma, we provide an alternative to talk therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

"EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the
emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For
many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other
psychotherapies." (https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/)

Good Faith Estimate of Costs
You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate that shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created.

The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) the bill.

If you are billed for more than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact the health care provider or facility listed to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.

There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on this Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.

To learn more and get a form to start the process, go to
www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate
or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.

When you receive a copy of your GFE, keep a copy in a safe place or take pictures of it. You may need it if you are billed a higher amount.
